Meetings

Regular meetings of the Society are held in the months of January, March, May, July, and September at 6:00 p.m. in the meeting room of the St. John the Baptist Parish Library, 2920 Highway 51, LaPlace, Louisiana.  Any changes in the meeting date or place are listed in the Schedule of Meetings and Special Events.  The October meeting is our annual Oktoberfest dinner at a location to be announced.

The GACHGS in partnership with Albert (Al) Robichaux are proud to announce the publication of German Coast Families: Their Origins in Europe and Settlement in Colonial Louisiana (Volume 2). Al will talk about his newest contribution to Louisiana genealogy and will autograph books.

The Faubourg Tremé is the neighborhood directly behind the French Quarter. A rich history will be uncovered by examining the man behind the name.

Anne will speak about her parents’ life at Carville, now the National Hansen’s Disease Museum. Her mother, Louise Anne Triche was a native of Vacherie and her father Johnny Harmon was of Texas. Her father was a talented photographer who upon discharge continued a career in photography.
